Bridges

Bridge at 750 W

The oldest of three extant Camelback trusses known to have been fabricated by this prolific Indiana firm, this is the second oldest truss of its kind in the state and among the longest span of its type. The equal division of panels between the center section and the sides is also unusual. The main span appears to retain its original members.

Bridge #131 is the county’s longest nineteenth century span built over the White River. It is one of six in Delaware County’s thematic group of historic steel through trusses with a timber deck. Often referred by locals as the bridge at Priest’s Ford.

This bridge consists of two side-by-side sets of three spans. Each of the rather flat arches spans 45′ and is raised vertically about 3′ on the piers. After widening, the structure carries a concrete slab deck extended beyond the outer spandrel walls on cantilevered brackets to carry 6′ concrete sidewalks and a 48′ asphalt roadway between metal rails. It also has flared wingwalls.
